The Danish Union of Teachers (DLF) organises the teachers of the Folkeskole (public primary and lower secondary school) and counts some 95,000 members. DLF President is Anders Bondo Christensen
The DLF was established in 1874 and is the only union to organise the teachers of the Danish public basic school (the Folkeskole).
It is our objective to safeguard the interests of our members in matters relating to educational theory and practice, economic and employment conditions, and to strengthen unity and further the development of the Folkeskole.
The organisation
The supreme authority of the DLF is the Congress with 309 delegates who meet once a year. The National Executive Committee has 25 members who meet at a monthly basis. At local level the DLF is represented by 78 local branches.
The secretariat is placed in Copenhagen and has some 130 employees. The DLF also has a representation in Brussels together with the other Danish educator organisations.
Developement Cooperation in Third World countries
The objectives of the DLF development assistance is to strengthen EI member organisations in the Third World in their work to provide satisfactory service to their members and to assist them in playing an active, constructive and critical role as social partners in the development of society.
At present the DLF has project cooperation with teacher unions in Kenya, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Uganda, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Liberia and Nepal.
